Safeguarding

At Nelson Primary School, we place the safety and well-being of our children at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to protecting all our pupils from harm and abuse.

Safeguarding means keeping children safe and happy. It involves:

  • Protecting children from neglect, abuse, and exploitation
  • Supporting children’s physical and mental health
  • Making sure children have the best possible start in life

We work closely with parents and carers to create a safe and supportive environment for all children. If you ever have any concerns about your child’s safety or well-being, please don’t hesitate to talk to a member of staff. Our designated safeguarding team are Miss Barnes, Miss Forrest, Mr Hargreaves, Miss Bi and Miss Hickman.

Who's Responsible for Safeguarding?

Everyone at Nelson Primary School has a role to play in safeguarding children. However, there are specific roles and responsibilities:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):Miss Barnes is responsible for overseeing safeguarding matters at the school. They provide advice and support to staff, liaise with external agencies, and ensure that child protection procedures are followed.
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL): Miss Forrest supports the DSL and can take on safeguarding responsibilities in their absence.
  • Safeguarding Governor: Daniel Taylor oversees the school's safeguarding policies and procedures and provides support to the DSL.
  • All Staff: All staff members have a responsibility to protect children and report any concerns they may have.

How We Keep Children Safe

We have a number of measures in place to safeguard children, including:

  • Regular safeguarding training for all staff
  • Child protection policies and procedures
  • Safe recruitment and vetting of staff
  • Close liaison with parents and other agencies
  • A safe and welcoming school environment

We believe that by working together, we can create a safe and happy environment for all our children.

If you have any concerns about a child, please contact Miss Barnes. You can also find a copy of our safeguarding policy here.
